Activities for Kids - Free

  • Go fishing at Kiwanis Park in Tempe.  With 125 acres and a huge recreation center with plenty to do.
  • Take your kids to the Library.  All of the area libraries have story times for the younger kids, programs for the older ones.
  • There are places where you and the kids can take a behind-the-scenes tour, and some of them, like the Stuffington Bear Factory and Cerreta Candy Company are free.
  • Got skates or a skateboard?  The valley now has several Skate Parks.  Novice skaters can watch the more experienced ones practice. Click here for the Glendale Foothills Sk8 Court Plaza.
  • There is rarely a week that goes by without some community having a free Festival or Concert.  Bring juice boxes, water and snacks.
  • There are more than 400 animals on display at Cabela's in Glendale.  Some were real animals that were stuffed, and some are original creations.  All are very lifelike, from the tiny mouse to the huge elephant.  Sure, it's primarily a hunting and fishing store but the exhibits are great (and Free).
  • Have you ever wanted to see Petrogyphs?  Take a hike at Waterfall Trail in the West Valley.  If you want something that's more challenging, try climbing Piestewa Peak.  It's fun, pretty and healthy!  Not necessarily a summer activity, though.  Bring water and light snacks.
  • Piestewa Peak is one of the city's Points of Pride.  Be sure to check out all of the other Points of Pride.
  • Of course, when its Summer, finding a good swimming hole is always on the list of fun things to do.  Here is a list of Community Swimming Pools.  Most charge a nominal entry fee.  If you want to just splash around then visit one of the area Splash Pads or Splash Playgrounds.
